ABOUT THE WORK

The Best of ASEAN Performing Arts is a showcase of top songwriting talents from across the ten Southeast Asian countries that make up ASEAN. In conjunction with Singapore’s ASEAN Chairmanship and Singapore Writers Festival, the concert features musical gems from across the rich and diverse cultural tapestry of Southeast Asia, united in One Voice. One Voice is presented by the National Arts Council and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. Global Cultural Alliance is its executive producer.

REFLECTION

The song Atman which translates to ‘soul’ in Sanskrit was performed by representatives from the ten ASEAN countries. This cross-cultural musical creation hopes to demonstrate the best of ASEAN’s arts and cultural heritage and create a new blend of contemporary music fused with traditional elements unique to the region. It is a celebration of the diverse talents who shape our region’s distinctive cultural and musical identity.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Philip Tan is an award-winning, critically-acclaimed creative director with a international portfolio spanning more than 20 years. He was awarded the Top 50 Global Teacher Prize in 2017 and is a five-time recipient of the Life Theatre Music Award. He is also a composer, surround sound designer, visual and performing arts consultant and a well-respected educator and community leader. Some high-profile, multidisciplinary events he has led include the 20th World Orchid Conference (2011), official opening of Gardens by the Bay (2012), Garden Rhapsody Light and Sound show (2012–2013), SEA Games closing ceremony (2013), official opening of Sports Hub (2015), ASEAN Para Games (2015), One Voice (2018) and ASEAN Best (2018) among others.
