ABOUT THE WORK
ScanScoreStudy2 is a short collection of excavated elements from a new series of longer form works for live electronic music and moving images. The video elements were generated during a residency at Signal Culture in the village of Owego in central New York State in 2018. The visuals for the work were created in real time using the Jones Raster Manipulator, a one-of-a-kind analog video instrument built by Dave Jones. Using selections of the footage as a visual score, the audio performances are performed live in real time using a modular synthesiser. The key concept is to use the dynamic metamorphosis of the visual elements as a real time form of graphic musical notation, influencing the form and direction of the music by applying a set of abstract mappings of the sound to have it react to the visual elements.
